What we do

Our dedicated WIT team utilises bespoke in-house tools and forges collaborations to promote equality and raise and realise aspirations within the sector and amongst future professionals.  We actively tackle unfair working practice, empower women and celebrate success.

Our mandate

Corecom has been advocating women and challenging outdated working practices since being founded back in 2015. It was a core objective back then and remains so today. We are blessed with a team of formidable WIT Ambassadors who continuously champion women and our UK business is revered for its WITBoss networking events that draw +500 women from across the industry. Drawing on Corecom’s years of expertise and our local knowledge, we are dedicated to following suit in the Netherlands, bringing attitudes and policies in line with the UK and other European markets, to level the playing field.

Practising what we preach, diversity and inclusion are embedded within our core values and are lived through our ethos and procedures including our pay and progression policies and our wellbeing and development agendas.

Statistics

When it comes to recruiting Women in Tech, the Netherlands is floundering alongside its European counterparts. Of those women that choose to pursue STEM studies, less than a third (29%) move on to technological careers, compared to 47% of men. The raw recruitment figures speak for themselves – with less than a quarter (23%) of IT professionals in the Netherlands being female, Poland (36%), Romania (45%), and Finland (43%) are all upping their game on gender diversity.

What’s more, the Dutch tech sector is experiencing a severe skills shortage with some 96,000 positions currently open. So why is the Netherlands lagging so far behind and how do we at Corecom tackle this issue, to overcome barriers to entry and promote a welcoming and diverse sector?

Flying the flag for gender equality

Studies suggest gender bias and traditional ideologies around STEM qualities remain very much an issue in the Netherlands when recruiting into the sector. Yet, in contrast, working practice demonstrates that gender diverse organisations are more creative and flexible, making for a happier and healthier work environment with much higher productivity and financial returns. The data shows that those organisations hitting the top quartile for gender diversity are 15% more likely to exceed the sector average for financial returns whilst gender diversity within senior leadership teams, makes for the biggest ROI with operating profit said to rise by 3.5% for each 10% increase in diversity. So, empowering women to take up studies and roles in STEM is logical. It just makes sense.

Levelling the playing field

Corecom is a business with a social conscience. We care deeply about people and we know that tackling inequality, empowering women and celebrating achievements brings a wealth of benefits for our society, industry, business and every individual that comes into touch with it.

To this end, we undertake to:

Tackle

Challenge is often key to bringing about change and we love to do it. We have developed a variety of thought provoking, yet fun and engaging tools to guide and support the sector and our clients in challenging and adapting working practice in an effort to recruit and retain more women. These include:

  • Strategic counsel on developing and adapting policies, procedures, governance and growth plans to attract, retain and develop female talent.
  • Practical advice and guidance on establishing fair and inclusive recruitment tools. We have a suite of tools on offer including workshops and masterclasses on blind CV screening, gender inclusive recruitment campaigns, carrying out female friendly interviews and identifying conscious and unconscious bias.
  • Relevant and early targeting of recruitment campaigns to attract female workers. These may include collaborating with schools and colleges to share the benefits of careers in STEM from an early age, in addition to targeting candidate recruitment to key cities that already offer strong talent pools
  • Conceptualisation and delivery of digital marketing campaigns designed to engage Women in Tech.
  • Publication of articles and blogs addressing issues and trends surrounding Women in Tech.

Empower

For the tech sector to really thrive at achieving true gender diversity, we need to seriously agitate the recruitment pipeline. And community outreach and engagement is absolutely key to achieving this. This is where our WIT team really comes into its own. Working with a wide range of community and educational partners, we collaborate and develop initiatives to reach, empower and realise women’s aspirations. We are particularly fond of working with women who are socially isolated or at risk of social exclusion, and seeing them flourish as confidence and skills grow:

  • Partnerships with universities and colleges to build IT career skills for young female students
  • Developing employment opportunities for female refugees and communities at risk of social exclusion via charitable partnerships that include masterclasses on writing CVs and job applications, as well as workshops to build basic IT skills
  • Holding interactive STEM talks at schools to celebrate women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
  • Developing social media content

What people say about us
We’re proud to be a 5-star rated company on Google. See what people say about us.

What I wanted from this partnership was to be able to take a step back and free me up to focus on my other responsibilities in addition to recruitment. Working with Corecom alone made everything so straight forward. I wasn’t having to chase up several agencies and there was no duplication of candidates. Tunstall was their no1 focus and I trusted them to deliver, which they did. There was noticeable improvements in CV-to-interview and interview-to-placement ratios which was a real pain point before changing the model on how we worked together. Working on a retained basis gave me confidence that extra effort and resource would be put in to filling the roles.
